One of the main goals that we have for our series is that ODPC would learn (or re-learn) and experience their Christian life in a dynamic, holistic sense – rooted in your IDENTITY (“in Christ”), devoted to your COMMUNITY/THE CHURCH, and sold-out for God’s MISSION in your everyday. Ephesians highlights all three themes, and it does so as one organic whole truth. For Paul, this letter was intended to be read in one sitting. And so, for the listeners of Paul’s times, they didn’t break it up into parts. For them, life in Christ automatically meant growing with His people and living out a life of witness.
Sadly, so many of us today compartmentalize and optionalize our Christian life. We hold on to our identity – but choose to ignore His community and mission. Or we make it all about community but ignore His mission. For Paul, there was no picking and choosing. Everything flowed and wove together (as we’ll see in this letter!).
