Psalm 81 is song that God's people are to sing to remind them of their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. This wilderness/desert-theme occurs repeatedly in other Psalms, in the New Testament, and especially in Hebrews 3-4, where God basically tells us that our lives in this world are in the wilderness-desert. The desert-wilderness is unsustainable to life. And yet, it is here that God chooses to meet and reveal Himself to His people. I will focus on 3 main themes in this Psalm -- 1) that all of our lives are in this wilderness 2) that God is the Rock who sustains us in the wilderness 3) that there is honey and a sweetness that we can find in God during our times in the wilderness.
